Classic six on Park
The busy executive who lives in this apartment wanted to keep the space’s sophistication, but desired a refuge from his hectic schedule and heavy travel. He desired peace and tranquility.
Design solution
The challenge was to create visual cohesion and flow across six disjointed environments with minimal natural light and disparate furniture pieces.
Gallery
Living room — vignette
We decided to design an inspiring and more peaceful sanctuary where the client could relax and refresh. Walls were covered in shimmering Venetian plaster, applied by hand, to reflect more light in the dark space.
Living room — with view of library
By using decorative sleight-of-hand, like the large mirror in the den, we tied the rooms together: the mirror reflects into the den and made both rooms feel even larger. We carefully edited the client’s existing furniture and added a few pieces to create a unified design.
Library
While I wanted to retain the masculine feel of the space, I focused on softening it and creating greater peacefulness by removing busy or conflicting patterns to instill a sense of visual consonance.
Bedroom
Lightening the color palette, updating the upholstery, and adding new textiles all contributed to creating an elegant and restful home.
Table
Connecting the decoration of the home to the persona of the client is an integral part of every design project. Renaissance men of wealth would display the objects of their travels on tables. In our updated version, the books, sculpture and vases reflect the client’s passions and æsthetic interests.
